Let us share our Ukulele passion!
Let us share our Ukulele passion!
It's A Ukulele Day! Vincent Mungo and Norine Mungo, a songwriting team, performing as The Mungos, and also the famous Reenee and The Rollers Uke Band, wrote the Uke Anthem It's A Ukulele Day.
Their covers are impeccable, their harmonies divine, and their songwriting is renowned. Performing Concerts and Festivals, and giving workshops in Ukulele techniques, this country rock duo is taking it to a whole new level. Appearances on WMNF radio of Tampa, Fox News Charlie Belchers World, Bay News 9 with Virginia Johnson, and 10 at 10, and multiple appearances at Uke It Out festival in St Pete Florida, the Tampa Bay Ukulele Getaway in Clearwater, as well as being the founders of the FREE World Ukulele Day Concert in Dunedin Florida, where they also perform, has kept Norine and Vinny at the forefront of the Tampa Bay Uke Scene.
With the original song, It's An Ukulele Day, (also called It's A Ukulele Day) they are seeing responses from clubs and groups across the country and around the world, passionately playing and videoing themselves doing this Uke Anthem! They hope you can join them in this adventure and share the love of Ukulele!!!!
Norine is also on the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay Ukulele Society as the Event and Performance Coordinator. She seeks out talent where no one dares to go!
Norine: I love my position on the BOD, cause I enjoy finding emerging Talent, new artists that deserve a chance to show their chops! I also enjoy working with the professional established artists and then mixing it all up. New, vetted, young, old, as long as it's good, we book em!!
Norine has been giving workshops for Ukulele for several years, and has developed a method that speeds the learning process. She calls it Transitional Chording Technique. As noted in Ukulele Magazine.
She also teaches songwriting workshops at festivals and has been active in developing young writers in the Tampa Scene. From young to sprung, as she says, everyone can play tough songs, and everyone can write simple ones. (Though she has written some very complicated ones, she loves the simplicity of a good 3 chord song!)
Also Co hosting the outrageous long running 8 years plus Rock Uke Jam, called South Tampa Ukulele Jam, and hosting the 11 year running Open Mic at the Whistle Stop in Safety Harbor with Hubby Vinny, she keeps the heart and soul of the Tampa Bay Ukulele Society pumping!
Norine has also developed several Facebook groups.
Beginner Ukulele Hints and Helps which now has 6500 members includes beginners, professionals, luthiers and manufacturers, teachers, and everyone in between! She invited professional artists to post their lessons, websites, youtube channels, and their scheduled performances with the beginners. The beginners and beyond are encouraged to post videos and questions and peers are asked to give positive reenforcement only. A very nurturing environment.
Ukulele Women has 2000 members and mixes professional female artists with beginner and in between, and allows women to post their ukulele merch, websites, schedules, and highly encourages all to post videos of their performances, home or stage! It has gone private so that members can perform with their kids!!! Or even the kids can post performances, safely!
Other groups developed are World Ukulele Club for world artists and clubs and event hosts to post about their clubs and festivals from around the world. Another group is South Tampa Ukulele Jam where Live posts happen during the jam so shut ins and stay homes can jam with the group remotely on Facebook. Norine runs the jam through Meetup . com. under Tampa Bay Ukulele Society, and sends out the music ahead of time to the members.
Playing Guitar since 16 years old, and Ukulele for the past 10 years, writing on her Ukulele Blog and writing her original songs, Norine Mungo is a force of energy. Holding the bar high, she reaches for new heights in each song she creates. Never the same, always a moving emotional experience. She welcomes all into the ukulele fold, with warm embrace and a big smile, known for her laugh and her hugs, you can't go wrong with her at a festival or workshop.
